The scrub pads others use have a very open weave. Your green pads will clog and water will flow around them instead of through them. Your green pads will end up costing more than a good purpose-made media.

Lots of people use pot scrubbies for bio-media, but they will do nothing for mechanical filtration. And not all pot scrubbers are made the same way or in the same place. With all the talk lately of products from other countries being shipped here full of contaminates, I would be very leary of using anything in a koi pond that is not made for koi. Why not just order some good filter media from the internet? If you want bio media, you can get bio-balls from Ebay. If you want mechanical, make a filter box and hang Black Night Brushes in it. Please don't skimp or take short cuts with the pond....I think you've already learned the hard way what can happen when you do.
