my new sanke

Guess what wife got me for my upcoming birthday

The breeder is Tamaura, it is a she, and she is two years old, 20 inches.

The pond is definitely starting to get crowded, I have to get moving on plans for my second pond

Comments please on my new sanke ...

What a wonderful gift. When wives start giving koi, you know you are doing something right.... but it also means the gift koi must remain in the pond for its full life!

The photo makes it appear yellowish in the fins. She is on the thin side. I'm guessing she was fed color-enhancing foods to intensify the red with the side effect of yellowing the whites. If this is the cause, in time the yellow will reduce and the red will become less intense. Some will be concerned that the red will be uneven as the color-enhancement gets out of her system. Time will tell. If the colors are not enhanced, then the yellow is a distraction, but may indicate a higher potential for the Hi to remain intensely red.

Altogether, not a candidate for a prize at a show, but a beautiful addition to your pond. She will get a lot of attention.

in addition to what MikeM already pointed out, I don't think the body conformation is good either. BTW, the Hi made the fish look more than 2 yrs old.

Thanks for the comments guys.

She does indeed look beautiful in the pond, very complimentary with the other fish.

She is thin, I will see if I can fatten!

I am not planning of feeding color enhancing food...I will post a pic again in several months we shall see how her colors progress.
