something in filter?

Hi:
I've just put my fish in a new pond we just built, anyways, we were looking at the filter today & we found these little gray worm like things in there...they're in the biological section... there's about 5 or so in there...does anyone know what these are? They look like they have a tail that splits off into 2 parts....It worries me cause I don't know where they came from & I don't want them on my fish...help!!!!

the're not going to hurt the fish, whatever they are. They are some sort of insect larva. They hang out in the filter because if they went in the pond, the fish would gobble them up. Don't worry about them.

mosquito larvae pix

unless you are worrying about west nile virus. then stock some mosquito fish. they love eating mosquito larvae.

if yours look different from the pictures (got them off the net), then you got something else.

It is amazing what will come set up housekeeping in a filter.
The other day when I cleaned the matting from my little fry tank TT it was loaded with literally thousands of bright red blood worms. The week prior there were none.
The fish didn't mind a bit. They've been getting blood worm snacks ever since

You guys are a big help....moving my fish from an aquarium to the pond has probly been more stressful for me than the fish!!!!Anyways, hewre's another dumb ? for you guys....Since they've been in the pond (about a week) , they haven't hardly eaten anything....I realize they're scared, but they're used to eating 2 times a day and now , I've been trying to feed them in the evenings only...cause it seems that's when they're less scared...then they will take forever to come up to the surface and they won't eat hardly anything.... Is this normal???? I want them to bounce back to the fish they used to be (in the aquarium)....they would eat from my hands, but now they stay on the bottom even whemn there's food...Am I worrying too much or what????

Probably just pouting and going through an adaptation stage. They'll more than likely come around. Is your pond raised or below ground? I've found that the koi in my surface level pond were more skiddish in the beginning than the koi in my above ground QT. Try to look as small as possible...sit in a chair for a while and try not to stand directly over the pond until they get more comfortable....Hope this helps.
