Koi harvested in October are released for shipment only after going through a full acclimation and inspection regimen. Last year it was thought they would be ready in January. One I got was shipped early February. Each is treated only as needed for parasites picked up in the mudponds. The fish are not put through a series a chemical treatments unless a need is identified first. (Unlike many sources that automatically put all fish through a series of treatments without scoping, etc first.) They are fully acclimated to living in a pond before being released.

I've been seeing a lot of posts about fish being harvested in Japan this week being shipped to the U.S. within a couple of weeks of coming out of the mud. That would seem to place a lot of stress on the fish, but it has been done that way for a long time. It becomes the responsibility of the dealer and new owner to provide the acclimation period.

Mike , Thank's , Thats the news I thought I would get . One of my group will be heading for the Charlotte Show instead of heading back to Louisville . And he wanted me to bring his Koi back with me . This is the reason for the question , I needed to be sure .

The QT may be back up before next weekends trip anyhow , but didn't need the extra pressure .

Someone who's been there b/f remind me what I need to bring. I know for sure I'll need some boots.

Rain Coat? What else?

Looks like high temperatures will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s over the weekend, with just a chance of showers.

A friend asked if he could QT his Koi at my house and I thought I better know the answer for sure .
It's true you can't take the mud pond fish home, but I heard they have quite a few fish that were pulled earlier that are ready to leave the farm now. Better get that QT up and running!!
