My Ochiba Shigura from Sakai..a pleasant surprise!!!

I decided to photograph my ochiba today (the opportunity was there!!!) I bought this one from a large lot of Sakai(H) fish at 3inches..for $40. This was the begining of last season. I am not the biggest ochiba fan, so I wasn't going to spend a lot on one. Well...here she is at 13 inches. I was really impressed with it's development. Really full body and very interesting look to her. The motogoro(??) on the fins was awesome!!! I think I got a steal!!!! Opinions are welcome.

Wow! What a beauty! The depth of that brown color is wonderful and, I dont know if it is a 'good' or 'bad' quality - but I think the little patches of brown within the individual scales is pretty cool looking. Thanks for sharing!

Would not have suspected such expansion of the pigment. Will it be Chagoi before it's done? .... Don't care for pattern (or lack thereof), but otherwise quite nice. It will be interesting to see where this one heads.

Sorry, Bob, but that's not a good ochiba -- and I'm afraid it's getting worse.

I never intended to show an ochiba or anything like that. There is something very funky about seeing this koi in person. It's hard to describe..but there is black at the trailing end of each scale. There is also more gray down the sides. It's a very dynamic look to see live..can't describe it any other way. I'll enjoy it for what it is.

Well you've given me a little more fun to look forward to. We've got 2 Ochiba babies, one heavily patterned, one more lightly, but nice scale definition on both. It will be fun to see what develops.

I agree with KoiCop, this isn't a very good example of Ochiba -- but it's definitely a nice pond quality koi regardless.
