According to a post Mark Gardner made on his KoiChat board, this was "the most expensive koi of the day."

The highest bidded koi was the no.60 Rainbow sanke @ 4.2 million Yen, 2nd was no.190 Tomahawk kohaku @ 4 million Yen and I think 3rd was no.161 Yamato kohaku @ 3.7 million Yen if I remember correctly.

89k USD is way over the top

Thanks, dechoong. Those are some amazing numbers.

Were you involved in the bidding? If so, were you successful?

For the record: The pic I posted was, indeed, #160. And here are pics of the other two koi you mentioned for everyone to see.

Hi Don. I was eyeing #161, #190 and #191 and had my dealer targeting either one for me... in the end they went 2-3x beyond my budget . Hesitated on #203 or I would have gotten it at a relatively affordable 1m Yen... awesome conformation. I think it has the potential to hit 90cm and above.

Thanks for the info and correction...
So we better watch out the info from dealers, who was there to bid for his/her customers ;-))

Dinh, If you just join goggle this year, you will be getting a lot toward the koi. The perks you can get are :

- free G-lunch and G-dinner, that amount to about $5K. NOTE that G is not the same as G-string..
- buy a prius and sell it to a friend. Earn a cool $5K. <G pays $5K toward your purhase of Prius or Honda Civic Hybrid>

- say you get an options of 5000 shares over 4 year at $480. That puppy just hit $600, so You in-house trade it for a cool gain of 600K. Damn, you can buy a load of these water pet, and ship the culled half to uncle sam and Arnold for tax, (does uncle sam accept koi as tax payment ). But you better get your butt glued to the floor of G-plex for a while.

The negative is Go will not pay you as much, and prefers that you work from 7AM to 7AM, or peer review can get pretty ugly.

For example, here's the exchange rate for koi #60:

4,200,000.00 JPY

=

35,821.69 USD

Japan Yen United States Dollars 1 JPY = 0.00852897 USD 1 USD = 117.247 JPY

At $35K+ that fish would not see the shores of the US until it has past it's time in the Japan Shows...
