Opinions please.

Other than Odd, what would you think the one on the left is going to turn out to be?
4" long @ 3 months old today.

I'm hoping the same. It is a poor picture, and misses the belly altogether.
Black body, orange saddle above the nose, white lips, white belly... For the time being it looks like a Crow with a "twist"... Growing babies is always an adventure

The scales are very well defined, and the look of this little guy is really hard to pin down. In the dark fry tank it is very black, but in the blue bowl it did lighten up just enough to reveal the reticulation along the sides and a few hints of brownish tinges around the gill plates.
I think this one is going to keep me guessing for quite a while.
The brownish areas may be a hint of Ochiba tendencies, or an indication of the older brownish black sumi found on older showa. It's only 3 months old, so it has a long way to go regardless

I think that's gonna be a Maruten Ochiba, Larry. It'll stay dark all winter and then when it warms up in the spring, voila! Reticulation and "falling leaves."
