Daniel . . .

First you asked us to guess the breeder and then you asked the above question -- which I've tried to both answer and explain.

Now you're saying it's about the domestic Blue Ridge 'Premium Select' koi you pictured being as good as or better than some of JKO's crappy on-line Japanese culls?

Had you actually posted that opinion at the beginning of this thread, I probably would have thought: 'Who cares?' -- and skipped this thread entirely.

There is one other factor as well. In the US the prices have come down for pond grade Koi. When you have cheap imports from all over the asian circle making their way here, and breeders in Arkansas flooding the markets with cheap bait fish that many buy for 5 bucks a pound, then you have school systems that are teaching highschool and college kids that you can be filthy rich raising Koi within 10 years and are flooding markets with fish that are raised by taxpayer funding, there is a real glut of fish available. So the staple of many serious Koi breeders, the selling off of the pond grade fish so they can afford to seek Jr's dollar, is a market that is droping.

So as a result, many of the nice fish are sold to high end customers that can afford to buy high end fish. But not many that will show the fish. And that leads to some real problems for the likes of Brett and the others that depend on pond grade sales to hold back the show quality fish for those that will show the fish (and of course know how to take care of them long term.)

Anyway, back to diggin!

Actually it should be "have you hugged your high end domestic Koi breeder today"? Cause he is on the endangered list.
