I did not mean to correct your English....;-)) This is a Koi forum, not an English forum.... Many members here are living around the world. Many American breeders went to Japan to learn about Nishikigoi, Japanese's way of breeding, culling etc.. So, I hope you got my point;-))

My posts have nothing to do with typo, spelling, writing or speaking Tonio.

There are some American Koi Breeders who are doing very good work and developing their own distinct bloodlines, but it is still true that the birthplace of Nishikigoi is Japan, and they have many generations of experience to do it well.
That does not mean that American bred Koi are not excellent because many are, but in Japan Koi is a part of the culture and there are far more breeders there with a strong background than here.

May I suggest....

Hi, Nguyen!

About pH...I mean this with good intentions. I think your pH & koi would do much better if you cut your fish volumne by at least half ...hard to do, I know, but like the other folks mentioned the pH will be affected by the amount of ammonia that the fish are putting out and it is hard for the CaC03 (carbonates) to keep up! There is a lot to do to keep koi healthy, and keeping less fish will help the health of the fish and the pond!

correct me if I am wrong Lithaqua is used for bringing pH down to desirable reading of low 7.xx which doesn't help in this case since s/he needs pH up, not down. just want to point that out so people don't get confused.

I use Lithaqua in my filtration to keep things stable, and I seem to recall getting it from a fella not to far from you... Seems like his name was Russell Peters

Actually, Steve...
Lithaqua is pure CaCO3, that desolves very slowly when the nitrosomonas (sp??) bacteria excrete carbonic acid (that lowers pH) after consuming the lovely ammonia that our Koi expell mostly through respiration. This product buffers the H20 and when used at the correct quantity keeps the carbonate level stable and high enough to keep nitrifying bacteria count high, and the pH level neutral. I have a spec sheet on it somewhere...I''ll look for it

Kari's explanation on the Lithaqua is exactly what I was going to say. I've got several bags of it supplementing our main pond filtration and our fry tank is filtered with a TT full of Lithaqua. Even with the record breaking rainfall we've had this year (over double the norm) we have had zero ph issues and the over crowded, heavily fed fry tank is rock solid.
