Appreciate your insight, Dick. Makes me all the more interested in how she turns out. Wish there was a way to keep track of her. That would be fun.

Smile Re; Momotaro auction

First of all, all the koi in auction are outstanding koi. I wouldn't mind to have any of these koi for a reasonable price but I am sure they are all expensive at the end of the auction.
I totally agree that Showa # 13 is the best koi of them all because of the tremendous body conformation , big head , thick tail joint, exellent pattern with almost checker-board pattern and tight motoguro and good sumi and beni. I almost sure one day this koi may be seen in All Japan show or ZNA show. Second best I will have to say Kohaku # 15 though it is smaller( 48cm ) She has very good beni , clean interesting 2 steps with outanding white nose and odomi. There is no beni in any of the fin , a perfect kohaku pattern. Body conformation is good but not the best in this group. I have problem with Kohaku # 4 because of her heavy beni almost covering the entire head and nose. Kohaku # 8 is not a bad koi at all . She has great body conformation but the pattern wasn't attractive to me as much. Kohaku # 7 is also a strong koi with good conformation but the beni on dorsal fin make it less perfect. Sanke # 7 is a small koi pattern. When she get big it may be less charming. Sanke # 8 has a yellow head which may clear but the 3rd steps beni is too small and sumi seems to be scattered. Remember these koi are all from 3 different same parents and the quality would be quite similar. A koi 1-2 inches smaller may catch up later in 2-3 years down the road. To pick best koi in the group I must base on body comformation( ie how big it may grow) and how perfect the pattern is. That is my basis of my selection.
One thing I would like Rob to do for interest of all of us is to post the final price at the end of auction to see how expensive these koi are . Thanks Rob.

Group Kohaku Tosai pics

Hi All,

I just received these pics. They are a group shot of tosai kohaku showing parent koi. I don't know if they'll break it down to individual koi like they normally do.

Hi AQ,

Unfortunately, I feel uneasy about giving out prices of koi due to confidentiality to the customer who ends up purchasing the koi. If in the end, the hobbyist is willing to share that information, I feel that it would be up to them.

How about just telling us the prices of the ones you get outbid on then?

I remember someone saying the reason why they dont let hobbyist attend the auction anymore is because the dealers were complaining about hobbyist knowing what they paid for the fish.

Hi All,

There were two pages of sanke that I missed. I just added them in on the first page.

Yeah, I can see it now. . .

Hobbyist: How much is that doggie in the window? Really? That's a 327% markup! What's up with that?
Dealer: Oops

Maybe, like sausage making, we're better off not knowing or seeing how it's done.

I think it's about the fish and how badly one wants a fish...HAHAHAHAHA...But I still have to say nothing beats the Momotaro BBQ.

Hi Rob, just wanted to ask how you got your hands on one of Momotaro's Oyagoi? Was their something wrong with it that they had to let go of such a really nice female parent, because from your video on your website it looks great. Way to go on your dealer GC win.
