Congratulations on your new baby. Just had a new born 2 weeks ago. Russ was asking me how many diapers I've change. It's just starting sleepless nights. Enjoy and savor the moment. Wait for her first smile it's magical.

Only a little off topic

It seems that more and more couples are having trouble conceiving. I think that it is due to "foreign" cars. Nobody had trouble getting pregnant in the back seat of a Chevy where, undoubtedly most of us were conceived. And the people who don't have any problems now (teenagers) are doing it in the backseat of old Chevys. Something about the ergonomics?

Just an observation of the kind that keeps me continuously entertained. Just ask me about Alzheimers.

Brilliant, Russell!!!!!

I think that Alzheimers and related dementias are an evolutionary adaptation. During our tribal times any extra mouths to feed were a drag on the community and changed the proportion of hunters to useless mouths. If our elders only grew wiser and more cuddly, the rest of the tribe would have to take care of them because they were compassionate and loved their elders. In the tribes that had demented elders, it became much easier to leave them on the ice, in the desert, in the convolescent home, or whatever. Thus the tribes that survived hard times might be more likely to have elders who were, emotionally, easier to leave to die. Or, they might just wander off. Or forget to put on their clothes in the winter.
In my more demented moments, I can envision an ice-ager threatening his father, "Pee your pants one more time, and it's the ice for you!!"

And that's what I remember about Alzheimer's, Russell.
