For Dick....Quality koi Goshiki

Dick, I bowled my avatar goshiki today and took a few pics of it for you. It's coming along slowly but I am really pleased with it. Here's a couple closeups so you can see how the sumi is beginning to rise.

When did the break happen at the dorsal ?

Has the Beni pulled back over the entire koi ?

I got the koi in May 2007 and I guess the beni started pulling back soon after. I sort of thought it would, it was a little weak in that spot. Now that I see the sides of the koi, I am a little concerned about what the beni is doing. The beni pulled back a little all over, but not much. I don't think it's pulled back on the head at all.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you , I see the concern about the Beni .

Even in the Avatar photo she had that "Saw Tooth" look .

I've listened to Mat for about a total of 3 hours about Beni . Hard , Soft , Stretching , on & on . At this point , I'm still trying to get it (I did get a Headache) !

maybe I'll Email the pics to Matt and see if he has a crystal ball laying around he can gaze into. I have very soft water and maybe that is doing funny stuff to the beni. I have quite a few other quality koi that are not losing their beni at all though.

Without getting into the cost of the koi , Was this a higher end koi or one that you thought was a gamble so to speak ?

I hate to say it but the pictures do show beni that is week and thin. It will continue to break up.

Well.....I guess what is higher end to some is cheap to others.....this one was high end for me....but still less than $400. Probably the most I've ever paid for a koi, but I am cheap

So do you suppose it will end up shiro? I sure hope not....I hate culling fish that cost a lot, but that's the breaks of this hobby.

Hi Cindy . . .

Soft water is considered optimal for beni, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Love your fish and hope it hangs in there.

thanks for sharing the photos and story

I was away from the computer at a koi workshop I was doing for the north idaho koi keepers, so sorry for the late reply.

There is still no indication of simi on mine.
