I see where it says .2% of salt may control reinfection of host fish...... I have plants in the pond. How much salt can be added without affecting the fish and the plants? Is there any way to test for such small amounts of salt? I was told salt is beneficial to the fish, just as it is in an aquarium.

ok, ill look int one of them.....but do you know how much salt is tooooo much salt? for koi and plants? The pond salt i purchased said to use 1 cup for every 120 gallons of pond water....but this was if you had plants in the pond too. This was also not for parasite treatment but just benifiting the koi's health.

I would bet fish lice also. Some times plants are the vector. Usually these parasites are only found in a pond rich in mulm and decay. Dimilin will kill them quickly and safely without harming the koi or the microbial environment. JR

If Dimilin is not available to you under that name, you will find brand name products effective against Argulus in most pond supply catalogs on-line. 'Clout' is one. There are others. Salt will not do any good in your situation.

Jlbspd . . .

Salt has it's uses, yes, but it is not something one uses indiscriminately.

If you're interested in learning more about the proper uses of salt, I highly recommend this thread on KV:

KoiVet Message Boards - Any thoughts for salting in the fall?

As for the fish lice, use of Dimilin is both indicated and preferred, although there are other meds out there.

Best wishes,

Hi , Jlbspd . . ., another easy way to treat is to use Lufenuron, sold for dogs with the name Program.
Use the Program for large dogs (Program G) and just dissolve 1 tablet for 1000 uk gallon and don't bypass the filter.
Good luck
