quarentine ?

I am thinking of getting another koi for our pond soon, I know we're supposed to quarentine it, but for how long? The dealer we're getting it from has a good reputation, the fish all look healthy....I just don't want to take any chances....any advice????
By the way.....you guys are great!!!!

You will get different recommendations, ranging from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, with a few people quarantining for several months. Whatever the length, it is important to have the quarantine tank/pond up and running long in advance with a mature filter.

Just to get the ball rolling for your Thread .

Most say a Min. of 4-6 weeks . Some quarentine for several months .

I would never place a Koi in my pond without having it in my QT for a time first . I don't care where it came from .

What Mike & Troy said. And let me repeat that word -- never.

Don't forget, QT not only protects your old fish from the new; done right, it also protects your new koi from the old.

Now if neither is worth protecting . . .

I don't care how good the dealer's reputation is....ALL new fish get QTed. QT for me ranged from a month for fish obtained from a very select few breeders who run closed farms to several months for fish from dealers who purchase fish elsewhere for sale, imports and domestics or breeders I am not familiar with.
