Why no Dainichi fall harvest?

I've seen post of many breeders in Niigata but no one shown an Ikeage from the Dainichi group.

Is there not one?

Where are the pics?

Russell did you go to their harvest?

We went to Dianichi and they had a number of fish already in their greenhouse. Our group bought a number of koi there. They definately have an Ikeage this year and we heard many more koi were coming out in the next week.

No, we don't have any plans to visit Dainichi.

Bob,

How were the shiros in person? Were there other koi in the greenhouse or just the shiros and the one shot kujaku spawn from last year?

I'm sure that kujaku had nice hikari even in the dim light.

Thanks for sharing!

Not all breeders invite dealers or hobbyists to their actual pond harvest. I don't know if Dianichi does or not but don't recall seeing photos of their harvest before. Also understand that most dealers want to concentrate their purchases with a few breeders or groups of breeders to get a better discount and because of their higher volume of purchases get access to better quality koi. So economics comes into play and also shipping from fewer breeders larger quanities is another way to save some money. It also makes sense to limit the number of breeders where koi are purchased and mixed from a biosecurity standpoint.

That is why most dealers focus on a group of breeders as primary sources for most of their koi purchased and a sprinkling of some secondary sources to allow them to fill in the gaps needed to offer a broad range of koi and prices for their customers.

Bob: Good thing your photo is a bit blurry. Sue can't have another Shiro this year, so best not to show her any.
