Doing koi surgery at a koi show.

I was talking to one of my online friends from San Diego who attend the Bakerfield koi show. Him being new to the hobby wanted to checkout the show, he asked me if I have ever heard or seen judges do surgery on a koi during the show. I then asked him what type of surgery? He then replied that the person or judge had said he was fixing the pattern on the fish. I didnt know if this common practice, so I didnt know what to tell him. So my question is.

Is it common practice to alter a fish at the show where many can see this? I thought from reading on other threads that this should be done outside of the show arena. And altering a fish was considered a hush hush thing.

Thanks,
Todd

Altering the pattern?

How did this judge "alter the pattern?" Before judging, after judging? Was he judging the show? Was it his own fish?

Redfrick: Please be sure your friend gets his facts straight. This is a very serious thing. If true, there could be very serious consequences. If inaccurate, the cloud could create very serious harm.

Was this a AKCA or ZNA show judge? I woud think that either of the organizations would frown upon this kind of behavior. For a hobbiest to alter a koi at home or a judge is one thing, but to do this at a show in front of the general public, should not be allowed. I sure hope someone from this club post and tells us about this incedent. I am appalled by this type of behavior, my wife and I have only attended one koi show, but if we had seen this type of thing at our 1st show, then I can assure you we would never want to go to another show again. This could hurt the hobby and the club that allowed such behavior.

To all,

I was not there at the show, but my friend was. This is a question he asked me so now I am asking you guys. Since this board is open to questions in regards to koi I hope one of the more educated persons could answer the question. I wish not to mention my friend's name because you guys would not know him as he does not visit koi boards anywhere. Plus, if anyone who was at the show can elborate more if the story is true or not please do so. Seems this show did not get much promotion to begin with from looking at the koi boards.

KoiCop, I don't associate myself with Hawley, nor do I plan to.

Thanks,
Todd

Fair enough, Todd. No offense meant; hope none was taken.

So as for details, we ain't got none. No context, either. And no one to interview. Hmmm . . . Guess we'll have to wait.
