Notice the eye placement on the first two kohaku. I guess the shinkokai overlook quite a bit when judging their brethren's koi !? Also, the doitsu showa has a crooked head, at least from the picture it looks that way.

No, it is not the Shinkokai overlooking deformities, it is the refraction caused by the water.

most of the fish have similar odd eyes placement. this leads me to think it's either the camera position or the water reflection as Russ pointed out.
