Kiwa for thought..........

the attached pictures will be a useful tip to understand Kiwa for us.
Good Kiwa on side of body is making zigzag line along to each scale edges for a young age koi.
and this is not only for Showa but also most of all 2 & 3 color koi except Doitu

If we look at our own koi carefully by this way, we would often disappoint.

I thought that that zig zag kiwa was bad, but I was obviously wrong.

Tomodachi, if kiwa is too razor edge and it seems to be scattered, is this bad? I believe so.. but I a could be wrong.

Can you please teach me about Hoshi beni and bad beni. Sometimes it is hard for me to differentiate them.

is stray beni marks something to be worried about it young fish?

konshuumatsu wa ii deshou ne.
karifourunia no tenki ga suki desu ka?

As always,

Stray beni marks you shouldn't be worried, what I would worry about is niban hi that some have tired to erase. Niban hi from what I was taught and learned from fish I bought is a sign of poor beni quality.

In my solo opinion, your showa has a good level of beni.......kiwa, evenness, thickness. and also the beni and shiroji have faily good tuya(luster) like a silk --> silky touch/feeling beni --> silk beni (^^)v

a little weak point is..............
attached the pic. it may be easier to find a difference without any fancy color and pattern ?? Good luck!!
Looks to me Super kindai is trying to let you know how Asagi sumi looks in a youg fish that is developeing. A very desireable trait.

Hi~ Louie. I was trying to show the head shape and the body confirmation by the previous pictures.

Your 3 step Showa is a very good example for outstandingly good kiwa especially on the tail tube

Here is a new sample picture for sumi and body:
Blue/Navy-black sumi like Asagi, long & big head's bone stricture with long tail.( plus a pink beni ....haha.)

hmm. Asagi beni? I dont understand. There can be beni types from different varieties of koi in another variety such as, in this case, showa?

Is kiwa only limited to beni? can it be present on sumi?

I am sorry for my late reply.

Yes, Kiwa is not only limited to beni but also on sumi. I attached the above picture for a sample of good sumi looks like.

It is easy to say by words what is good beni..... such as even, thick, sharp kiwa, even sashi, brighter color with tuya like a stained glass red, etc but there is no perfect one so we need a compromise.

Zig zag kiwa appear only on side of body (not on a back of body). So please do not mixed up.
I believe that Hoshi beni is fine. it would be by kieto (bloodline) and I heard that Manzo Kohaku bloodline have a tendency of Hoshi.

the new attached picture Showa just came up from a mud pond last weekend.
she does not have Hoshi, although grown up to a monster size of 68cm ( about 27") as Nisai (17-18 month old)

Sorry for my late reply too. I was working this weekend.
That is beautiful sumi! subarashii
I always see tsuya like wet thick plastic that reflects the light ( in black, white, red, or any other color) Is this a correct visualization?
The fish has remarkable growth for just nisai, this koi will probably be a jumbo?!?
Dare no koi?
Is it true that bad sumi will be weak in the way that the sumi will not be thick and it will take on a gray look throughout the koi?
