This is a VERY old variety. In the beginning, the name goshiki was a catch all term. Everything from asgai crosses to kawari crosses were called goshiki. And there were a mis-mash of goshiki sanke, goshiki showa and even doitsu goshiki kujaku. Then the selective breeding and varieties became more organized and goshiki really became defined. It was a kawari of the asagi and it is known then and today as Kuro Goshiki. This was probably the 'golden age' for goshiki. The kuro was refined so that the deep dark black/grey body included highlites of white, blue and purple. The red pattern is either fire engine red or lava orange.
But this was often as small fish. And never a long lasting fish in terms of color intensity.
So like old style show giving way for a time to very extreme kindai showa, Kuro goshiki gave way to Shiro Goshiki as modern gosanke genes were poured into the mix.
In truth, today, ai gorormo and shiro goshiki come out of the same spawns. So genetically, the kuro has been washed away like some old time lines of showa.
The art is to keep the atmosphere and separateness of the goshiki of old while taking on the 'blessings' of modern gosanke. Until then, there are only a few individuals that are the best of both worlds. The rest are an aray or gradation of degrees of mixes between two distinct families - the kuro from asgai/karasu and the shiro from Kuro X gosanke.
When it's right, it's right. JR
