Nishikigoi- Reaching its climax?

Do you think that much more varieties can be produced?
Where do you see the Nishikigoi hobby being in 20 years?
Do you think there is much room for improvement in koi?
Please tell me what you all think.

Just wondering what you all think about this. I think It is very intresting what people think about these types of topics.

Yes, many more!!

I see kids like you taking over the hobby. The new blood.

Do you think there is much room for improvement in koi?

Maybe, the Niigata breeder's Sons will either improve what they inhereit or maintain.

Please tell me what you all think.

Eric

Just like you, there are many that will inherit what has gone before them in the history of Nishikigoi on the hobby side.

On the professional side, as Antonio mentioned, "the First Wednesday of the Month Club", which are the sons of the current breeders, are beginning to follow in their predecessor's footprints. There are several with a lot of energy and great ideas for improving their genetic lines. Who knows though, someone new may emerge with a new variety due to their experimentation. It could even be going on behind closed greenhouse doors right now. We just won't see any of it for several years to come. Sure hope I'm around to witness some new developments. As long as the new generation of breeders doesn't settle for status quo, there will be improvements and new varieties in the future. BET ON IT!!

October often has Peter Waddington comment that the koi are improved over the prior year. He speaks the truth.

This was a show entry in Japan less than 50 years ago.

If you want a look at what is possible down the road, all you need do is look to the past. Could the breeders of the 50's and 60's have truly envisioned the radical transformation from then to now? 1 meter Showa with rich beni and laquer black sumi to die for. That alone is a far cry from the old 60cm model with dull orange hi and brownish sumi...

The koi have much room for improvement as we find better ways
