To the people who are dissatisfied . . .

with your award, which is only a tangible reminder of accomplishment, I don't think that there is any law against graciously accepting the award given, going home and buying one that makes you happy, having the plaque engraved with the correct information, and displaying it to your heart's content. Your friends will probably laugh at you, but as long as you're happy . . .

With all this controversy, it will probably ruin a generous and gracious gesture. The person in charge of the trophies is proud to share their vision and to criticize their choice may be perceived as a slap in the face. Soon, the awards may be reduced to a certificate, and what fun is that?

Trophy Malcontent

I am not sure I understand what all the whinning is about. I guess as I read the other thread, Lee A. called out the Louisville club for having poor trophy choices. If that is his position, then he has three choices:

1. Not show in Louisville
2. Be a gracious participant and be happy with the trophies your koi win
3. Buy your own trophies

I have been showing for about 9 years now and this is the first complaining I have ever seen written on a Board about the quality of the trophies. The trophies are just confirmation that my skills were acknowledged by a team of Judges....sometimes more and sometimes less as in the case this past weekend. I have a bunch of nice trophies Lee, but my true "winnings" are in the friends I have made along the show curcuit way. That is my reward. I have known you for a few years and I don't believe your intent was to slam the Phelps and the Louisville club publicly....even though that is how it came across. They are two of the finest folks in koidom and I am sure that Mrs. Phelp's trophy choices were in her mind ...beautiful choices. Take the award your koi are presented and "smile" for the camera.

I'd never heard complaints about our awards until recently, only compliments from people that were thrilled to be at our show and experience the hospitality of the Phelps. They open their home and property to the masses from Thursday until the following Sunday, including cooking breakfasts and lunches for the judges and workers.

Maybe we don't have the $6 trophies (our cost more), but until now I didn't know our awards weren't appreciated. I'll be happy to bring it up with our club and the Phelps and let them know that our awards don't meet some people's idea of awards.

Here's our Friday night cookout. All free, you might recognize some of our group.

I'd be proud to display our trophies.
