Here's a few more pics of the tancho and a video for those who have never seen a pearl ginrin in person. Note that unlike Dan's illustration of the pearls being in the center of the scale, these pearls are at the very top corner of each scale like JR said the new pearl gins are appearing with. Until I see a definitive pic of pearls in the middle of each scale, I'm not going to believe they ever existed that way. When this tancho's pearls light up to their max, they do look like they're in the middle of the scale. But they're not....

Taken with no flash this time:

(Is there any way to embed video on this board so it can be seen in the thread? Tried but it doesn't work--just click on filmstrip to see video in my photobucket acct)

Needless to say, I'm still wondering what class a fish like this would go into. I understand that some shows may have ginrin tancho classes. Are there really that many to warrant a ginrin subcategory like that? What's the scoop?

Nothing like newby questions, huh....

Here's a decent shot of some ginrin scales one of mine has. Thought it would be a good picture for the thread....

Taken without direct sunlight.....

Ethan,
Read the thread carefully, analyze the pearl gin, examine the gin on yours, and tell us the differences you see. Define YOUR gin as opposed to Pearl gin...

I believe my gin is diamond gin, not pearl. Pearl is supposed to be in a circle shape in the middle of each scale from what I remember, and my gin looks combed....in stripes that extend from the base of the scale outward to the end.
