Joining a club only broadens your knowledge. There is nothing like "hands on" information through folks that live in your neighborhood. If you ever need help, those same club members will be there to offer help. The relationships that are formed over a common interest are invaluable. It also gives you the opportunity to get more involved in the hobby if that is your choice. LV is a fairly new club, but has a lot of really nice dedicated folks. They also host a show annually which you will really enjoy. Yes, sometimes there can be some politicking going on, but look at that as an opportunity to volunteer for a board position to have a voice in the direction of the club. A club is what you make of it.

Nothing but pros in my opinion.

Great post Sue......exactly what I was going to say. A club is what you make of it. Don't join a club and expect to sit back and relax.....jump in and help out!! My own local club failed because there was only one person willing to work and I got tired of being one of the founding members, president, treasurer, secretary, speaker, web master and ring leader. My best friend was dying of cancer and I needed to spend time with her on sundays so I stepped down as president....and no one stepped up to take over. The club died. It was sad to see all that we had built just die so quickly.....but no one person can (or should) do everything so what a club needs more than anything is members who are willing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in.

Wanted to thank everyone for their opinion. Also is there any difference between AKCA or ZNA style clubs? I know LV is AKCA, but what I wanted to know if there was any difference between the two in learning?

Thanks again,
Todd

Boy can I identify with this lately!!! Even if you can give just a small amount of time, anything helps.

Join a club. Nice to meet other people that are crazy about their fish. Not everyone appreciates the work that goes into our wet pets. Also the Koi Health Advisor program (online koi health) is available to all club members.

I'm secretary at the Louisville club, a great bunch of people and a wonderful show Memorial Day weekend.

Has ZNA NorCal changed, then? When formed they didn't start out with dual affiliation -- just ZNA.

At first they were going to go with the AKCA insurance, but found a way to insure themselves independently.
