I think the man to ask about that particular pin is Norman Call of the OKWS.
Although the first Koi pin was probably the ZNA members pin from Japan, it is the USA that has really led the way with the ideas. ZNA So Cal played a big part and were the first westerners to introduce Show Pins. MAKC were the first to depict previous champs, and put out a comemorative set with history.
Ventura County brought in the concept of a set detailing the show classes.
In 1998 my club usurped several of these ideas and fused them into one. We are running a series of Show Classes, Using different designs each year, and documenting their history. (See
