Take a look at the 3rd post in this thread Louie. That guy that runs that site has it in his sig.

As a side note Louie...click on the ZNA Potomac link in my sig and go to the August newsletter. You'll want to check out page 7. I meant to send you a copy of it and forgot.

Bern,

I think this would be a nice foot note to add to koipin.com if you can locate the designer for ZNA SoCal pin for 1996 and 1997 and find out why this particular kohaku was chosen for their pin. Perhaps, find out the root or ancestry of this kohaku if there is any significant about it. Is it real or is it just a version of an artist rendering his vision of a grand champion. if it's real, who is the breeder and what had this kohaku accomplished.

Was this pin made before 1996 ? could be. I don't know when Grant was a dealer but my guess it could be decades ago. So what's the linkage between then and ZNA So Cal pin 1996 & 1997 pin, if any? Perhaps, there is more to the story than what Larry told us. Perhaps, there is none. Maybe Grant can add his 2 cents to the story. I just a guy who happened to take the picture of the pin.

Perhaps, future koi clubs should design their commemorative show pin base on a real grand champion to honor its accomplishments and contributions to koi hobby. for the pins collectors, it'd nice to have a story goes behind every pin.

Regards,

Steve

There is also one also with a kohaku on a blue and silver background which was given by Dr.Kuroki. These were given to Grant by Dr.Kuroki.
Also there is a silver tie clasp on silver with a koi half in red and silver.A 20th central koi show.
All three were given me by Grant.

Grant has a great collection of koi tie clasps that he collected at the many shows he judged/ attended.

I think the man to ask about that particular pin is Norman Call of the OKWS.
Although the first Koi pin was probably the ZNA members pin from Japan, it is the USA that has really led the way with the ideas. ZNA So Cal played a big part and were the first westerners to introduce Show Pins. MAKC were the first to depict previous champs, and put out a comemorative set with history.
Ventura County brought in the concept of a set detailing the show classes.

In 1998 my club usurped several of these ideas and fused them into one. We are running a series of Show Classes, Using different designs each year, and documenting their history. (See Show Badges)
