Hi-Silk Sweet Potato

Have any of you looked into using the Sweet Potato food for the fall/winter months instead of wheat germ. I did an informal comparison to Hikari Wheat Germ and the Sweet Potato food has less protein and fat. The main ingredient is sweet potato instead of wheat products.

My fish and I are already in love with it and I will be feeding it, with Hikari Sinking Wheat Germ (for the fish's entertainment) for the winter. The fish love it and it feels good in the hand.

Perhaps it's something that should be considered. For what it's worth, it has my recommendation.

Local for me

I think that it deserves looking into as an alternative to the trusty wheat germ.

I feed the same mix as Carolyn. I think Tonio was the one who told me about using it instead of wheat germ. I do like to use the wheat germ as it has been used and recommended by other koi keepers for a long time. The combination for me seems like another good way to feed during the colder water temps. No scientific means of measuring any benefit but the fish sure seem to like it.

I have been feeding it as a year round staple for well over a year now and we love it. The whites look terrific. I suppliment it in the summers with a higher protein food. I'm considering trying and adding EA One also soon.

This is the only supplier I've seen that carries it.

Carolyn,
I didn't understand your response to Dick. Does Hakari make the sweet potato food?

recently, I was told by one of out-of-town dealers that Japanese breeders don't use brand foods to feed their fish anymore. I asked what do they use for feeding their fish now. I was told that each breeder asked manufacturers to make specific food for their fish. it's kinda like we can have it our way when we eat at Burger King.
