Am I the only one here that did this.

Having a month to rate these koi I listed mine in order from 1 to 81, which is my last pick position. When someone takes one from my list I delete it, and everyone moves up a space. No need to constantly reevaluate after someone picks. No worrying that someone took one of my top ten. With my first pick at 67 my top ten are long gone. It did seem to be the logical way to do this.

No stress, that's my motto.

Now where is seefdro tvneik

Mike

that's a pretty darn good idea Mike. Problem is....my koi choices keep changing because I keep changing my mind.

Sandi and I picked #70 because
- it had good conformation
- the pectoral fins look large
- the head's shape is close to a equilateral triangle
- the sumi on its head looks like it can grow to touch the nose
- the pattern looks balanced - assuming the sumi will come up

The caveat is that taking good photos of tosai is not very easy.
How you judge from a photo may differ from how you judge seeing the real thing.

In any case, you can rely on us to post photos of our tosai's development.
After all, the real payoff from this contest is learning how Omosako shiro utsuris develop in general. By "general", I mean most of the population inside the "bell curve" (from statistics). Individual koi may not follow the general trend. We have two adult shiro utsuris (not from Omosako) that developed in very different ways. So, there are no guarantees.

But, it's fun learning how nature works. You learn more from active participation than from passively reading books or looking at CDs. And you learn more from your mistakes. There's a Japanese saying that goes "You learn more from your defeats than from your victories". But I hope we share our victories too, because I want to follow the development of the winners.

Good luck, everyone!

Ben

134 was on my original top 20 list but I dropped it with the same concern as there is indication that sumi will come up later. the thought of keeping a shiro muji for 4 yrs was not comforting.

good luck to the new owner!

It said that if the fish does not have at least 2 spots of sumi up, it may go shiro muji. I see a really nice submerged sumi pattern on 134, but almost no sumi up yet. There are a couple tiny dots of it up near the dorsal, but that fish scared me a little bit. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya though. It has the potential to be a really nice shiro utsuri!

Gallagher,

no problem here with your comments.

I am guessing here but I think Mike meant your last comment in post 1042 could hurt some feelings if miss-read. I kinda agreed with Mike but no worries. let's drop it and move on with the fun, ok.
