For the most part, its pretty self explanatory.
The GC is usually the top koi at any show.
The baby, youth, adult, and mature are subcategories for the GC title. The most important is usually the Mature GC

that doesn't answear the question...

what constitues a baby champion, a youth champion...

I'm presuming it's age, but at what age does a baby become a youth.

When does a youth become an adult, an adult a mature

Hi Mike,
Koi show group koi by type and lenght. Age is impossible to verify so not used to group koi at a show for judging.

You probuly know that the best koi in each size slot is selected as best in that size.

Typically the best in size 1 and the best in size two are judged for the best of these two koi and awarded baby champion.

Best in size 3 & 4 = Young Champion

Best in size 5 & 6 = Adult Champion

Best in size 7 & 8 = Mature Champion

THis actually depend on is a show has 8 sizes. In large shows in Japan with up to 16 sizes 3-4 sizes would comprise a group and the best koi in that group would be named baby, or Young Champion, etc.

Before anyone else jumps on this (which means DON'T anyone else jump on this).

Eric, if you are not 100% sure of the answer. Please refrain from answering the questions. An uninformed person may take your answer and believe it to be gospel. There are many knowledgeable judges and show persons that will better inform those who asked and steer them to the correct answer.. You never know you might learn something as well and remember its not the quantity of posts that matters but the quality of the post. It'll make your life and my life much easier thanks .

Will keep this in mind.
Sorry. To be honest, I really dont know why I even typed the reply in the beginning of the thread. Although, my post did reflect how I understood the 'question'.

p.s. Its not about quantity, because quantity means nothing.

The point is that you did not know the answer to the question.
