TOR,
I tend to shy away from buying Tosai due to the increased risk associated with future development, the first being male vs female. Gosankes are even tougher since then you have the added risk of beni development and with Sankes and Showa, sumi development.

All that being saids, when I look at Tosai with sumi, I always attempt to look for an area with some developed sumi so that I can judge the quality of that sumi (true with Shiros as well.

Looking at your pictures, I can not ascertain any area with sumi development to make that decision on and in addition, the motoguro is not what I'd be looking for either.

But hey, its all a "crap shoot."

Steve

Hi Steve N., I believe that these are all pixs of the same shiro. I also agree with Steve S. in that there has to be some developed sumi somewhere, especially on the pecs. Since there are no evident developed sumi, I would look at bloodline and the parent stock to predict its development. Also, sumi development is dependent on diet & water quality as well.

Similar to Steve S., I have also shied away from buying tosai b/c of male/female unpredictability along with development uncertainty. While one has to start somewhere and tosai can be a good learning tool, I am starting to grasp what others are saying about how they would rather buy one/two good nisai than a bunch of tosai. Good luck with your shiro & please keep us posted on its development.

Always got to be someone in the crowd who sees it differently......

I like tosai. It's a challenge to read them but they make such giant steps forward their first year that it's enjoyable to watch them grow and change.

I don't see this koi becoming overly huge based on the length of the head, even if kept in marvelous, gigantic water. I can't see the fins under the belly
to grasp the strength of the sumi but it is obviously there and will take time to come out in your water.

The skin is nice, and i think altho we can't judge the quality of the sumi, I still like it's chances.

Igarashi Kazuto breeds shiro's that don't show any black thru the skin or under. they are all white, and they are his best ones. He won't sell them the first year.....Maybe there's the gambler in you and i that makes us excited to see what a "long shot" will do.

It is always a risk to buy tosai but a challenge to grow them. This is another shiro maybe a guide for all to compare. What is your prediction on this piece compare to TOR.

I think much of what has been mentioned before will apply. Can't really see the sumi to judge it's quality but light the tight motoguro. In showas and shiro's I like what I call a saddle across the dorsal to anchor the fish pattern wise and it is definetely gonna come in strong there. Again worth the risk and fun to see what turns out.....

yes. Thank you for every suggestions.

The shiro tosai is difficult to select . But I think it has too many challenge in this type of koi. We are waiting for a dark sumi and the white skin at the same time it can has a red spot on somewhere it look like a bonus that you got after buying thish fish from japan.

So i will give you the update in next 3 month.
