Milkish

Hey,

I saw 2 kindai showa which are nisai. They are just out of the mud pond supposedly. One, the body and head is very milkish white, displaying very high quality shiroji (the first pic). The other, the head is yellowish, and body tinge yellow.

Upon purchasing, based on the photo, I really liked number 2, however, after seeing the fish in person... I took home number 1, as the size was bigger, and the white just captured me, but the beni seem a bit thin.

I was wondering if the yellowish on the head n body (fish #2) is due to the mud pond, and will clear up later on in our pond...

I am still learning, so please comment on, positive and negatives are welcome... thanks

I like Showa number #2.

Even thou it doesnt have the skin quality as number one, it does have better beni and conformation.

Cool

#2 is the better Koi. #1 does look like a male and the beni is week. The skin quality on #2 will be better.

HI,

Yup number 2 looks good in pic, but seen in person... body and especially head area, very yellow... that's why I think foto can be quiet deceiving, hehehe. I have actually reserved the # 2 prior to seeing the fish. As for of the body, the 1st one is bigger size too, maybe the photo of the body turning is the cause of it appearin like a male maybe?

They are both female certificate. Idea of improvements for the beni, color food?

Hi,

U guys think the shiroji of the 2nd fish will ever be as white as the 1st fish? Other than feeding wheatgerm, what are the things that can be done to help improve the shiroji.

Soft water, high protein foods like "silk worm" during the summer. Keep your water and filtration system maintained. Low stocking rate and good water turnover rate IMO.

I agree #1 appears to be a male, bright colors, pointed pectal fins. I like your kindai showa tastes.

Male, oh no? The dealer is gonna give me the certificate that it is female next week. She is about 53cm now. Could a female have a pointed pectoral fins as well, or it must be a male?

Me still a rookie, so please bear my many questions, hehehe

Females usually have more rounded pec fins but that would be a poor way to sex a koi. Males most times have more of a yellow head but again you can't just go by that. You should look for a strong and full body and some what of a belly for a female. Also a nice puffy pink vent unlike males which are more inward.
