I'm sorry, but IMHO using BS to 'stabilize' pH in the 8.3 range is an example of treating the symptoms rather than fixing the problem -- and is not something that advanced hobbyists should consider doing.
If water quality out of the tap is adequate (pH, KH & GH), pH swings should be less than .5 per day -- even in full sun. The usual cause of pH swings (outside of unbalanced KH & GH readings) would be plants/heavy algae in the pond producing of CO2 and taking up the oxygen at night.
In this case, getting rid of the plants/algae is the proper solution -- not baking soda. |
