Well, at this show last year there was this big, imposing guy going around trying to borrow some dress shoes.

Luckily, I didn't have size 15's on -- so I was spared the arm twisting.

Needless to say Don that was probably my worst Koi Show experience being on the judges side...They need to change the dress code to shorts and flip flops....hahahahaha....I am sure Burt would enjoy that too.

Me, too, 'Tonio; me too.

Retired in 2000 -- and haven't worn anything but shorts & flip-flops since then. Dressing up for me means a shirt with a collar.

Some of the worst moment can occur - by having won.

In reply:

It is sad, but true about this wonderful hobby of ours...that due to some 'ugly' unhappy few; that sometimes being fortunate to have a fish which you entered 'win 'can' forment amongst those who are envious, insecure and jealous of your win, create the worst moments at a koi show.

It doesn't happen often. However, it does occur.

And, like a spreading cancer it does, hurt~

Nonetheless, there are also others who are enlightened koi hobbyist's who encourage you to show. And, who encourage you to bring your very best fish. And, who are honestly pleased to see 'great koi' and who applaud your win...regardless of whomever the winner is!

It is they, who turn the worst moments into the best!

Aaron,
Surely a man of your aged life has learned that competition is the sweetest when losing hurts the most, and they were complimenting you in the extreme by not being able to hold themselves still.
I would relish that koi show above all others
