DCNY: Nice... clearly shows how the sumi coming up can dramatically change the look of a Showa. ... Is one your's?

Yup, post #8. The body is still progressing well but it came out with a lot of secondary hi. It'll come home since it's probably not worth the breeder's time or mud pond space to keep for another year.

It's interesting that they were all in the same mud pond from the same set of parents but the rate of the sumi development is so dramatically different in all of them. It's also great fun to see the development of the motoguro and menware in this set of fish.

A very nice learning experience.

Thank you for sharing the developmental pixs, Dan. Yes, it's amazing to see the drastic differences in the development of motoguro & menware. There's really no way one can judge the development of a tategoi showa, is there? Perhaps that's why there's a saying that raising showa is a gamble. Amazing how they develop!

Not trying to deviate from the post, but how would you guys rate the conformation of these koi using the last pix of each koi as a judging template?
