Bob,
Was suppose to be there today in the San Jose area. But unfortunately we have to cancel last minute yesterday. Was kinda hoping to see those babies.

Michael, let us know how you compare your new Dainichi kohaku to the ones above when you get a chance.

Maybe too early to tell since Nancy koi-napped it.

Bob,
Goodluck and have fun with her.
Flounder,
The Dainichi can't be compared to the others because my sakai 29 inches when she came in from Japan last year and my hoshikin is already a goner I killed it when I left the water on couple of months back before the Vegas koi show. The Dainichi kohaku is only 11 to 12 inches. The Sakai has better skin overall a very nice big fish but with nice fishy come a nice price tag. She will be a very nice GC inthe next two years.

To me singleing out any breeder for the best of anything is a bit presumptious.

Since they are farmer's , crops change. breeders die, any number of things could change the results. I feel most comfortable in buying the farmers I have been following for 3 decades because I think I can buy the best fish based on the knowledge of a bloodline. Kinda like a breeder knows what to expect from any of their old parents after following them year after year. There is value in that intense understanding.

This is my new 18+inch female nisei from Yamamatsu koi farm. I really think she is closer to 20inches. The picture doesn't do her justice..I can't wait to show her. The thing that pictures can't convey is the height of the koi. This one is thick and enormous throughout. She is in my quarantine tank right now. I will transfer her in another 2 weeks. I'll get some new pictures then.
I bought for the koi in this case...not for the farm. although I have read that Yamamatsu won the all Japan show 2 times. I have big hopes for this one!!
Yes Dick...I took your advice and haven't given up on kohaku..lol. You gave me the little nudge I needed a few weeks ago, so I will try again. Just hope I don't see any shimmi's!!!

That is a very nice Kohaku. Yamamatsu has some very nice fish. I drool every time I go to his greenhouse, but usually, what I like, I can't afford! Isn;t that the way it always is?

BTW, Yamamatsu (Toshiyuke Sakai) didn't win the AJKS, his brother, Toshio Sakai(Matusnosuke) has won, I believe 4 times. His was the 101cm Sanke grown out by Momotaro.

Thanks for the compliments on my new koi mike. Yamamatsu did win the all japan show in 1995 and 1997. Here is a site to see all the winners:
