Here are the 2 pic, blur due to taking from phone camera.

showa (17cm) born in May,
(I hope those sumi are not baby sumi that will go away.)

sanke (21cm) born in July.

Choose based on pattern preference, my guess on sex is based on relatively softer beni from the same batch.

The 2 fishes are too small for me to look out for any other characteristics of female.

welcome your feedback.

was struggling with the pecs

and trying to figure what happened there. Almost looks like an injury in which both pecs were scissored off to look the same, yet the shape doesn't seem
right with flat ends?

The pecs shape are just due to photo angle and the fish turning. No cutting or injury. both are pecs are still nicely shaped.

Nice growth - 6" in 6 months time. Notice how the shoulder hi plate has really changed shades of red to orange - that is due to the fast growth of the shoulder and the color stretching, which is indicated by the darker coloring in the middle of the scales.. It should recover if you don't try to grow it too fast. Also, the sumi has become lighter as well. Again, normal for this type of growth, should recover nicely later on after she stops putting on so much body mass and length. This is normally a good thing, so be patient.

Thanks for the comments.

I was a bit worry about the grow rate, as in Asia here, many people has manage to grow the same batch of fish to 60+cm now.

The sumi has became lighter, and a dealer told me that it is quite normal for momotaro sanke, whereby in tosai, strong sumi, nisai and early sansai, weak sumi, and then when sumi return strong, it will stay there.

So far....I can only listen to believe, since this is my 1 batch of Momotaro fish.
