Hi,

Could you share your thoughts on why the 2nd fish has a better future? IS it due to the body structure or the pattern?

I find that these 2 tosai, is quite longish, relative to the same batch.
I'm not sure whether the body structure can be observe thru these 2 pic, I choose based on pattern, since the dealers mentioned that the batch is of 'equal' quality in body structure.

I completely believe the second fish will not have a pattern you will find pleasing..it will have a very dark back half. i can see alot of Sumi coming through that half of the fish.

I WOULD buy the first fish as the hi is strong in the first and the last step, it may very well become thicker on the two other steps. i also think the black on it will rise in almost unsuspecting places and make this koi a pleasant koi to watch mature..the face pattern will definirely be interesting.

Hi, For the 2nd fish, I was so attracted by the head pattern, that didn't realised the heavy sumi behind. What is the likely chance of sumi to recede for momotaro bloodline when adult?

The Showa pattern is just quite perfect for me.

The current AJGC has a very dark back half and I still love it. Many top Showa these days have dark back halves. Just look at any Japanese koi mag.

I'm getting confused here. I thought #1 was a showa and #2 was a sanke - isn't that right pbng?

Both fish are okay. Personally, I like the sanke (#2). I don't think the back half will be as "heavy" as mentioned. I have a 4 year old Momotaro Sanke. She is now 24-25". The sumi is excellent quality and it started out something like yours. Mostly, what you see is what you get. It doesn't seem to keep coming and overtake areas as some bloodlines do. I think you'll be happy with either fish depending on which variety you like better on a personal level.

BTW, how are you getting tosai at this time of year. Normally, they don't arrive until spring? Where do you live and who is the dealer?

Mike,

Yes, #1 is showa, #2 is snake.

I stay in Asia (S'pore)...these fish were about 15-17cm when they came in last month from a dealer in M'sia.

Max koi (S'pore) also bring in quite a few tosai over last few week.

I was told these fishes were from the recent auction.
I've selected another 2 yesterday from Max, but no photo yet, at 21cm and 17cm.

Main risk is the sex!

but so far, even for Male fish from Momotaro bloodline, they are not a disappointment.

Yes, but AJGC or candidates of GC were not selected by pattern....

You could finish it up earlier then bring to a koi show for a fun & study, if it's a male with good skin quality.

You could challenge to make a 100cm Jumbo fish with the big brand name as momotaro, if it's a female....

I think the back half of the sanke will be okay with that type of sumi and development way.....
