bronze koi sculpture

Hello,

This is my first time posting here; therefore, be kind but honest.

I am an artist that is in the process of creating a koi bonze sculpture. To view the work in progress please visit the following URL... http://www.handsofcaesar.com/bronze-koi-nishikigoi-sculpture-1.html
the goal is to sculpt the koi correctly.

Koi is one of my passions and creating this sculpture is a labor of love.

All critiques are welcomed...

Sincerely,

Caesar Yanez

OK Ceasar, your dog heads are wonderful. I have a little problem with the koi arrangement. You got too much stuff going on. Logs and plants and lily pads and frogs do not really relate great for a scene. My thinking would be three koi swimming, slight size deferential less all the other stuff mounted on a stand or display. Just a thought but I would love to learn how to make bronze figures.

koi arrangement

Kingkong,

My wife said the same thing... too busy, I will rework the concept.

As for creating a bronze... follow this URL, I have posted the work in progress on creating a bronze... bronze - Wire Fox Terrier | original fine art by Hands of Caesar TM

thanks for the feedback...

The two smaller koi look wonderful. The large one looks great, except for his mouth. You have his mouth opening straight ahead....like a bream. Koi are bottom feeders and for the most part, their mouth opens downward. Otherwise, I LOVE what you are doing and am looking forward to the finished piece.

Looking good! But please correct your koi information on page one- Koi do originate from common carp. And it is CARP that originate from the Caspian and Black sea regions- not koi. And Koi did not originate in China. Carp were domesticated and bred in China. Koi, or Nishikigoi ( like the name of your club) are a unique product of Japan. Niigata region of Japan, to be specific.

And finally, the Japanese koi, although related to the goldfish, is not breed to emulate the goldfish?! A goldfish is bred toward mutation of the physical body and finnage. A koi is a natural fish which is only selectively bred for color and pattern. In fact, the desire is have the body remain exactly like the wild cousin. This is actually the OPPOSITE of goldfish goals.

Sorry to mention this but lots of people read things on the Internet and take them as fact. Your facts are incorrect and terribly misleading. You have a responsibility to get these things right- especially if you going to sell art work to koi kichi .

Best of luck in your finished work. JR

large koi mouth

You are correct,

The large koi is still in its rough stage. I plan to tweak it within the next two weeks. The mouth is troubling me and I might decide to just close the mouth.

The smallest koi was completed last night. I will not alter it any more until I receive additional feedback. The medium size koi is undergoing new fins and additional detailing. (see attachment)

The large koi will not have its scales detailed until I am given a green light on the overall confirmation.

I have taken several images of koi with their mouth open, but I have not located an image that grabs my attention.

On Jan 12, the Nishiki koi club meets for their monthly meeting. I will be taking all three koi to the meeting in order to obtain valuable feedback from the members (members consist of breeder and judges).

The aim is to sculpt the three koi in the correct confirmation; therefore, giving these beautiful fish justice.

I will post new images once a week as the work progresses. All work pertaining to the koi sculpture will be posted on… http://www.handsofcaesar.com/bronze-koi-nishikigoi-sculpture-1.html . As the page fills with images, just scroll to the bottom of the page to find the continuation page…

Your likeness in clay is excellent. Some critters pose better with jaw open such as dogs and sharks. They look natural that way. Koi have strange looking mouth parts when scarfing down. Probably would be best to avoid this pose. Thanks for the display of work.
