Respectfully, MCA, I am not a fan of floating a cover on the surface of the water as too often a koi manages to work itself on top of the cover. If you do so, suspend it off the water or extend it significantly beyond the pond's edges. (I put it over a PVC greenhouse-type frame)

Our pond is semiraised. Cover goes to the ground in all directions. No risk of koi getting on top. Would never have a cover that allows koi on top.

One of many advantages of semiraised ponds!!!
