Sometimes the research is the initial meeting with the contractor. If the contractor shows up on time, returns a couple phone calls and has a good presentation that is often enough for the typical homeowner.

I have run into contractors that were using photos of ponds I built, calling them his own in his portfolio to win over homeowners! The nerve of some people!
