The chicken or the egg, which came first? I feel this board and the magazine reflected the koi culture as it exists in Japan and therefore around the world. Did people make it that way or were they attracted to the board because it was the home site of the Japanese magazine? Not sure. But today it is what it is. Not much danger of the garden pond hobby taking over here and that is a sign of hope for the future of the hobby. JR

Well put Jim.

Ignore the frivolous comments from me and the man with the terrible taste in shirts.

It's #1 because the members here focus on serious and competitive koi keeping. Time and space are not wasted on water gardening, etc. If you want to compete, this is the place to learn. I do enjoy other sites, but I take them for what they are, and nothing more. When I want to sit down, read, and do heavy duty learning...this is where I stay.
I remember when I started here a few years ago. I already had won a few awards and thought I was hot s--t. I posted pictures of my fish here...and subsequently got torn apart. I said to myself, this is where I have to be. This is where I am going to learn. Several years later and I realize I have only scratched the surface of this hobby. I can't say enough good things about this site... It is an excellent resource for those who are serious about koi. Thanks for the education!!!

Here, here!

I feel comfortable in this forum. It's about the core interest of the hobby and populated by adults, in mind if not in years. A place where you can speak your mind, say what you think, and be accepted.

I believe the level of moderation plays a part in its success too.
It's consistent and allows the free flow of ideas with just the right level of control.

While I do lurk at other forums, I have called this forum my home because of the seriousness and competitiveness of this forum. The topics discussed here are in depth and engaging, and while most of the topics are over my head, I feel that this is the best way to learn. These are the reasons that make KB THE #1 koi forum on the internet!
