Bandito Evolution 2007

A vision of the evolution of the pond of Bandito, a pond of 150.000 L with superb koi

ATB video tv 2.00

On the same page, you can see the same pond but in 2006, look for Bassin Extraordinaire

enjoy

Superb?

I enjoyed watching the videos very much, but I do have to say that it is not an ideal Koi pond. Watching the Koi forage through the plants and rocks on the edge of the pond has me wondering how many of the Koi get injured on the rocks? How many of the Koi are injured or eaten by predators in the shallow rocky area?
The pond is full of Koi but they are not superb. I would say that they are just pond grade Koi. I am not trying to be insulting so I apologize if I come across a bit harsh. This is the truth as I see it.

thanks for sharing.......

I think, the overall atmosphere of the garden was very nice. It captured the essence of what brings most hobbyists into keeping koi. The sound of water,
the green landscape, the use of color alone in the pond. All very well done and quite satisfying. A restfull place to go and be alone with your thoughts.
A haven.

But for a group of hobbists who share information here, and have entered into the leading edge of the hobby, so much of their focus is on water quality, high end koi, and competition. These things naturally tend to diviate away from a natural looking setting and upon one more focused on show development. I would think your assesment of our typical pond would be exclusionary to one sex.
A pond void of plant growth and natural rock .Sterile looking maybe. The nature of Russ's business is to to be involved with this group of hobbyists. and of all the chatlines around, this one tends to cater to this special group.
I say this to re-enforce Russ's comments that there is no offense meant
by some statements that might be mistaken for being critical. Our focus
tends to be on a different part of Nishigoi enjoyment.

I think it's fair to say that we all seek the beauty of the living jewels, But we find it in different places...

Oops...I guess this is not the forum for me then.

Parting Words:
aquatechnobel, your pond is beautiful, fish, cats and all.
Just the kind of pond I would design.
I don't need the hassle of high end koi or the sterile look.
My hobby is fun!

A beautiful, naturalistic pond. I think is a good example of a pond that should be limited to male koi. I cringe watching the spawning activity with all the rocks and shallow areas. The rock is going to capture debris and cause a lot of work to maintain with big fish like koi. But, I think the owner could get by with a half dozen males due to the overall size... perhaps more if a lot of maintenance hours are put in every week.

hi

i wouldn't discount a few of those fish with out a closer look. The koi seem to love the shallow section but you are going to get a raccon or something soon and they will come back for there midnight meal till you fill that area in.

if you lose some koi i hope it's not your best! best fix it. if the cat can get that close to a fish in 10inches of water there as good as dead with a wild preditor.

i love that bridge! looks like you mite fall off though.

There is a "herd forum" out there. They focus more on "herd", pond rocks, cats and sometime dogs too.... There is no hassle, no sterile look at all... Just say how beautiful their "herd" are even you know for sure they are losing colors, breaking the scales or even dying.... It is all fun indeed.

Perhaps that is the better place....
