Rumor has it that.......

Rumor has it that there is a new club or something forming in the S.F. Bay area. Has anyone else heard of this?

I heard of it, it's called "A waste of time koi club of NorCal"....To be honest, the Bay Area Koi Club scene needs to straighten out what is established before creating a new one...

New Bay Area Koi Club

Yes, I heard about the club, but I heard it is a study group. Does anyone know how to get an application to join?

study group for new koi hobbyist

I heard the study group is one teacher that will teach new hobbyist how to select exceptional fish. He will teach students what a quality koi looks like. He will also be teaching new hobbyist what is good filtration and water. He will also teach how to judge koi. It is not a koi club

I would like to join as long as I don't need to attend the study meetings or participate in any event or pay any fees.

Oh boy!!!

We need more an' more koi clubs. Limit membership to two persons and we can have thousands of koi clubs!!!

I've been tryin' for many years to make less koi clubs. Especially 'round here. For several years now I've helped arrange meetings of two clubs in one place and time, a neutral place of my choosing and an admonition to "act right when you are at MY customer's place." Each winter many clubs meet right at my farm, guess what, they all get along.

After several such we began having joint meetings at clubber's homes. I now have hopes of getting back to one koi club, one meeting a month, and more than one person in the club willing to do the "work."

I like study groups, but it seems to me that if only one instructor the study will be greatly limited.

One of the clubs here is primarly that, a study group. No show, no pond tour, but a good lecture every month. Sometimes a guest lecturer that is outside the koi hobby, but with related subject matter. We've had state biologists, public aqaurium directors, sewage treatment workers and all manner of folks over the years. Yes we have one major instructor, but it is not just the one, it is many from varying but related subjects.

ANY koi club can do that and most I know of do so.

I also fool around with the local (and statewide) aquarists clubs. Now those folks are serious, they make koi clubbers look like lightweights. But, they draw from many walks of life to educate thier members.

Hmmmm......I can teach all those things, maybe I'll start my own "study group."

You ain;t gotta come to meetings, do any work or anything else, all you gotta do is send money!!!!

I work with an architect and we have set up something similar. We call it the Church of Pat and Russ. There is no need to attend, no lectures, no sermins, nothing. Everytime you have a bad thought or do something wrong all you have to do is send our Church a check and we will absolve you of all your sins. It's simple.
