Thank you Mike for your support. I will try my best not to disappoint! Even if I can the basics of judging from this exercise, then it will have served its purpose. Again, it's just something to pass the time during the winter months!!!!

Some of us have a layer of ice on our ponds. Can't really get good photos and video that way. If it was just a good photo of each koi, the participation would be better. We did this on KP. It was definitely fun. I wouldn't mind seeing it here.

The best time to take pics of your fish is when the water is very cold...So for those who want to try this thing out you could take pretty good shots with a point and shoot with the fish staying still in cold water..

It takes a while to put something like this together. You would probably take the pics in the fall and have the actual "event" in the winter.

We will be working out the dynamics of our next virtual show pretty soon. I would be happy to share our format with anyone that would be interested. The first one was fun, but simple. We would like to take it a step further for the next time.

Anh Dinh, I wouldn't dare take this position! Thank you, though, for the offer. I just think that we should all work as a whole to bring something to this so-called "forum for the serious hobbyist". I didn't know that other forums have already had such events......will browse and see how they are doing it. Brutuscz & cppond, please continue to offer suggestions.

As far as launching such an event, I think that it's going to take a lot of effort but doable (?....is that even a word?). I was thinking that maybe we can start with a specific class or type of koi, give individuals a timeline to post their koi, and start the judging from there. I understand that some may not be able to participate and submit their koi d/t weather, technical, or other reasons. But for those that can, I think that it will be a good way to showcase their koi and to see what the critics have to say.

As far as pixx & videos are concerned, I think that perhaps it would be good to start with just pictures only, but if you have video of your koi, then it would be a bonus. I think we can do it guys, I am up for learning as much as you guys!

Gotta get back to my QT tank. Almost done!!!!!

Hello Lam . . .

'Tonio, Mike and Dick explained some of the reasons why picture contests are problematic -- here's another one: Most of the members of this board who show won't be interested in participating in such a contest.

Why? Because it's like exposing one's playing cards before the betting has occurred.

The result is that folks who don't have show koi will submit pix, but folks with show koi won't -- 'cause they don't want others to know what they'll be bringing to the upcoming shows. I was taught that lesson (after violating it) by our own Nancy M.

So keeping that in mind, what does that predict about the quality of 'the show?'
