Asagi Develoment

My dealer is currently on a buying trip in Japan and have offered me this Nagoshi Asagi for sale. It is a female of 65 cm and three years old. The netting is perfect and the head is beautiful and clean. I am concerned that it is too thin but have been assured that it is a trait of the Nagoshi Asagi's that they put on body later on. My dealer have assured me that he has seen the fish swimming and that there is absolutley nothing physically wrong with the fish.

Even though I have kept koi for many years this would be my first Asagi purchase. I do not know this breeder and bloodline and I would appreciate any advice and comments. The intention of the purchase is for future showing.

Not to worry about her thin body now, look at the proportional to the rest of the body...
Very clean head, nice scalation with light blue. I like it... and will let Dick B to give his input...

The first blue? me too, I have my first blue and the only one... I am sure you will be happy with this one...

thanks Dinh

Let's start with some positives....the blue is very nice and lite for the age and from narumi breeding, the very best for showing. The body is nice and where it should be at this age.
The red is that nice reddish orange. The head will clean up in high quality soft water.

concerns: missing scales on her right hand shoulder up from the back of the pec. usually the scales grow back smaller making the asagi han different in size. There is red over the lateral line in the tail section of the left hand side. Not every time but more often than not
this ends up with having a red band over the back at the base of the tail. These would be minor flaws from a judging standpoint but you need to be made aware.

if your purchase her she must go into soft water or the head will grey and discolor and absolutely no color food to encourage red over run which can be a problem with this variety.

If the price is right and your not into showing, think you could learn a lot by keeping a nice quality koi like her. Sorry I am not familar with the breeder but don't believe I see any hosokai influence. His beni seems to be more red than reddish orange on this gal...
