Question Are Shiro Utsuri's more popular than sanke and showa in the USA?

It might just be me, but from several USA based forums I have been on for about the past 6 months people seem to be more interested in Shiro Utsuris than both Sankes and Showas. I think Kohaku's get more interest, but Shiro's seem to be very popular recently; for what it's worth.

I really like Shiro Utsuris"s but Showa's are always my first choice to have in my pond. Gotta have have some color in the pond.

just you.

if you do a search for past threads on favorite varieties, on this forum or any other, you will see that the gosanke varieties are usually mentioned as favorite breeds. and particularly that showa will normally be top 2 on most lists (it's #1 on mine!).

I think Shiros have gained quite a following in the past 4-5 years, particularly because folks like AuntieSue have opened folks' eyes to how good a black & white can be. Once you see high quality examples of a variety, desire to have one grows. The top dealers will supply that demand with quality fish.

I like Showa and Kohaku the best. As I've stated on several threads, good Sankes are tough to find. Way more good Showas and Kohakus. Shiros come in 3rd for me. It would be fourth if I could get good Sankes.

I've noticed this too. I'd say for the past year or so, shiro utsuri's definitely seem to be the "must-have" variety among most of the fellow koi kichis I converse with on a regular basis...
