Back Ground Color

I know this isn't Koi related, but I also know there is a world of knowledge here, and I need advise.

I have a brand new 6' acrylic tank due here in about 3 hours, Only trouble is it has a black back. And I want blue. I have been told the Krylon Fusion plastic paint is safe to use inside the tank, to paint the black back blue. Anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

Yes, I have heard of it. We use it all the time to spray white pvc pipe black to make it more invisible. It should work fine as far as painting a plexiglas or acrylic tank inside as well. It's designed for pvc furniture and all things plastic. My only concern would be toxicity when using it INSIDE the tank.

I use it also for my pvc pipes and one thing I have noticed is that it scratches easily so you might wind up with black lines in your blue pond.

If the paint will be under water, it will eventually flake off. Especially on acrylic. Not much in the way of paint will stick to it. Most kinds of enamels, and even automobile urathanes will blister and flake underwater. When we used to paint the bottoms of vintage woody boats for show purposes, we'd use very high quility urathane paints, over fiberglass, and we'd tell the customer not to let the boat sit in the water for more than 3-4days, or the paint will blister.

Is it a 6' aquarium tank? Best bet might be to get 3M vinyl that's used for sign making, comes in a rainbow of colors. I would think that it would stick good.............. Just wait a couple days for the moisture to dry out behind the film, and allow the adhesive to bond to the surface. You need to apply it with a couple drops of cheap-o lemon dish soap to a pretty full bottle of water in a spray bottle, and squeegee the air bubbles out. Let dry and wash it out to get any soap residue out.

one of the funniest things is to go to even knowledeable koi hobbyists and breeders and see that they actually took time to paint the part of the tank underwater

Good replys guys, thank you. I decided to leave it black. I only have one black goldfish, the rest are all red's, white, and yellows. And if I plant it the plants will hide a lot of the back ground anyway. Thanks again.

how many gallon tank is it?
if you ordered a blue and getting black.....they should cut you a deal to keep the black

It's 125 gallon, I swapped some pond stuff for it so i didn't have a choice in color.
