Yes, I was referring to the Vancouver Is. dealer that I talked about in the first post on this thread.

Matsubagoi,
By far the best place to get koi on Vancouver Is. is at West Coast Koi in Victoria.

Because they are a breeding facility and have many thousands to choose from at any given time, you are more likely to find some fish that are above pond grade than at any of the garden centre type dealers like the one I am talking about in this thread. I have been visiting dealers all over BC and I am still finding this to be true . ..

BTW welcome to Nanaimo! (I'm on Gabriola) are you planning to build a new pond when you get here?

Next year, 2009, The koi Coach has been invited to speak for a joint meeting of the victoria and van courver clubs. My specialty is tosai selection and would love to have the event held where I can use live examples.

I think having a pond of males is a better idea than most folks give it credit for.

Keep in mind from a business standpoint, most dealers will handle Koi that sell in the price range their customers are willing to pay. It does not make sense to ship koi in that will have to retail well above the average mean price most will pay. You can't eat em

All breeders produce mutts, even the very best ones. And most dealers sell what their customers want. Some businesses have customers that are willing to pay $2000 for fish (or much more) and some businesses have customers that are only willing to pay $15 (or much less ). So the dealers stocks what their customers want. Perhaps this dealer can get you higher grade fish if you ask him?

I have been to West coast koi, it wasn't too bad, but Wayne didn't have the quality im looking for.. he also told me that it was to sell his business, i expressed my interest, but i don't think he took me seriously.
I only have a indoor pond right now, but would like to have a big out door pond in the near future, but when i arrive in nanaimo, i would like to get my hands on some property and start my own Importing business, mostly with high quality fish, but also sell Good pond quality koi as well for the beginner.

Mr. Benbow, i look forward to hearing your lecture next year, Im very interested in the development of tosai and would like to learn more and more!

I agree about the quality at West coast - but I have not found better in BC. If you opened an high quality import operation in Nanaimo, I will be the first customer at your door!

Dick, I would love to attend your seminar, as well. Would that be early in 2009? Are details available yet?

Cheers,
Ci
