Showa comparison

If you care to comment, which fish do you like and why. I thought there were some interesting contrasts between these two fish, both from the same breeder- Suzukei, both female, nisai and 15-16 inches. And just for Steve- you know, "we are only judging pictures."

Their bodies are a bit distorted by the different camera angles, so I'll assume they are equivalent bodies. I prefer the first one. The Hi seems more even, although points of variation in the second may just be light reflections; and I prefer the balanced distribution of sumi. The Hi goes into the caudal fin just a bit on the first, but not so much as to bother me. Others may differ on that. I'd rather have saddle step of the first wrap more deeply. In person, that might bother me more than in a head-on photo. Have to say I am biased in favor of balanced motoguro of the first. I believe it will retract on the first and be less messy. Not sure if the second will have full fan motoguro. Quality of sumi looks about the same, but hard to tell since it mainly overlaps the red except on the face. So, definitely #1 for me, but #2 has a clean feel to her that I'd prefer if exam of the base of the pectorals indicated there would be balanced motoguro and the points of uneven Hi were just photo glare. How's that for being definitely uncertain?

Both quite nice but I would lean toward the second one. The shiro seems brighter and the sumi is mucm more developed. Both have excellent bodies.
Are they priced the same? Is one suppose to have a better future?

Hello Mike . . .

There's enough to like -- and enough to wonder about -- with both of these koi of yours that I really can't decide.

But I do tend to favor #1 for 'today' because of its pattern elements, which are more important at a show at this size.

Both fish are developing the "big stomach weak tail joint syndrome"....But I think conformation will gradually fix itself later. Anyways, I like the consistancy of the beni on Showa 1 and the sumi that is up is pretty good on it too.

Both fish are on an auction site. The first one has a higher estimated value. I like the second one. As Mike M. stated, the beni on the truck of the body on the first one bothers me. The second showa has a whiter nose. The camera angle is an issue when judging the pictures, as stated.

Mike, I think that the first showa has a better conformation that the second one. And yes I agree with you about the first showa's beni. Maybe I am just used to seeing beni wrap down the sides of the body a little bit more. While the second koi is more finished, I still prefer koi #1 for its future potential. My choice: #1.
