Eugene, Dinh, Tony: Thoughts on how Momo bulks up the jumbo tosai without the energy going into length?

Very NICE! I especially like the showa although there are some very nice sanke & kohaku in the bunch as well. Rob, I don't know if it's appropriate for me to ask this on this thread, but is it possible to share with all of us, esp the newbies, as to how much we will have to shell out for one of these tosai? Also, what is the summer mud pond fee per year? Just thought I would ask to see how much I have to save up for one of these beauties.

MikeM, I would love to respond to your question but I am afraid my knowledge is not there yet. Hopefully, one of the pros will chime in.

lam,
momotaro is happy to 'hold your koi in the mud for free', according to their web page. I heard nisai sanke#3 was the most $$$ one. I also heard showa#4 price was very reasonable.

Thank you Stan. It would be nice to own one of those, have it be grown out for a couple of summers and come back at around 25 inches! Man, it would definitely be a dream come true!!!!

25" ? many of those tosai will be that this autumn. Momotaro don't keep koi simply because you've asked. the koi has to be something worthy.

I am surprised at bulkiness of the showas as well and how all the fish grew since Nov . They were kept at 25c and fed twice a day . I do not think that the bulkiness is due to feeding it is just genetic .
What I am intrested in knowing is the price of kohaku 8,21,22 as a price ref. if I have the money next year .
Regards
Eugene

I am very interested in the price range for these tosai too, Eugene. Again, I don't know if it's appropriate, but it would be nice if Rob could share with all of us as to what the price range for these tosai/nisai is.

I do not think that it is a great secret what the price is . I think that in an Auction the dealer gets a % of the cost of fish and the shipping handling etc . The problem is that a dealer has to be succesfull on enough fish to make it even worthwhile to attend then he can if he is lucky pick up a few bargins that he can make some money on . The price range is not a good indicator you would have to know the individual price of them to have any idea what to bid . The price was keeping the tosai till Oct so there are not going to be a lot of low priced ones .

I only checked the fish that I was interested in Tosai Kohaku from BENTLY .
#8 ........38cm 220,000 yen
21..........37cm 630,000 yen
22..........37cm 330,000yen
Based on quality those prices are not bad especially as they are going to be kept till Oct . as heating costs plenty here . The nice part is that I was fairly close in my estimation of prices so there would not be majour surprises .
Regards
Eugene
