| Hi, I used a 15’ diameter, 42” deep, metal frame Intex pool as a temporary pond while remodeling my concrete pond. I called Intex and asked if they impregnated the fabric in their pools with an algaecide. The short answer is no, they do not. I did not treat the first water with pp or anything else. However, just in case, I did put a couple of sacrificial fish in the first water and watched them for about a month, no health problems evident. I checked the gills and found them to look like healthy gills. Setting up the pool: I first tried to use a 3” bulkhead fitting through the wall as a way to plumb a bottom drain. That idea did not work. The wall fabric stretched away from the fitting as the pool was filled with water. I had to patch the hole. I then used two sawhorses on a pallet with a piece of plywood to create a platform on which to set the pump. This raised the intake of the pump to about 1” above the edge of the pool. I first used 2” flex pvc pipe as a suction line then changed after seeing how a dealer set-up his pool/qt filtration. (They use them as qt and have for many years now) I then ran the suction line out to the middle of the pool and down to just off of the bottom. The pipe was supported from overhead cross piping integral to a shade canopy. I used a check valve about 1’ from the end to make priming easier. The water was returned tangential to the wall and produced a good current flow around the inner circumference. I have read where other people have had some problems with the inflatable pools. But not with the metal frame pools. Steve |
