Some things to like:
tail joint, layout
Things that are a concern:
beni evenness
conformation
I guess it depends on price.

A fish can not be 2years old it is either around 20 month or it is about 32 month old which is it ? I can not see much more sumi comeing so pattern not for me . Again it depends a lot on the pocket book and price asked as well as your taste size of pond etc .
Regards
Eugene

The beni on the head looks to be fading. The Kiwa of the headpattern isnt so sharp, but looks to be receding.

Hey Luke

That's a real SAFE statement - LOL!!

I agree with Tony, the beni on the head has a rather blurry kiwa to it. Also, some of the beni plates on the body have some sashikome issues and looks a bit weak.

Eugene

I guess I must be looking at a different fish as I see several locations with underlying sumi. Depending on the water quality (hardness) it may or may not present itself. BTW, the Japanese consider the fishes age at the first of January, so two years old is probably correct, even though we consider it ake-nisai!

The fish I would say is 2 years 8 months old and 14in long . Due to small size the fish should be finished based on my experience . I do not think that the underlying sumi will suddenly appear and I can wait on a large fish that has thick shiro of extremely high quality where the sumi takes time to come through . It is not in this case in my opinion .
The age of fish stated in years is really confusing as some when they say 2year mean not yet 3 which cost me a lot of money . At Momotaro showing me 2 year old fish I asked for date of birth and it was Aug 06 , I double checked and was told less than a year and a half nisai , yet at the Isawa Nishigoi center 2 year old fish where 3 by the time they were shipped to me . So this misunderstanding got me 2 fish which I would not have considered
I t was probably the reason why I receive such a great selection of Tosai for such a low cost to study . Now you tell me that age starts in Jan which makes it more conmfusing .
If you are buying fish I would recommend asking for month and year of birth .
Regards
Eugene

Yes, absolutely always go by Month & Year of birth,... then there's no confusion,... or confusing lingo.

Best Wishes,

I love those kohaku's!

The show does have some stops where sumi will be comeing threw. A little more sumi on the koi's left would be nice. Some more high in the back and it would be even nicer.

When I look at the head I enjoy the pattern. I think as a large koi he will look good but have a great head. Just needs a little help in the back.
